"leather Hammer-ſtalls are undoubtedly an advantage to a Battalion, when loaded, and refting on their Arms, as accidents may be prevented, by having them then fixed upon the hammers of the Firelocks" -Cuthbertson, 1776
A flintlock hammerstall is a leather safety device whose use is directed in numerous 18th century military manuals (as well as most reenacting events). This design is based on examples in Sweden and Austria, as well as David Morier's 1751 painting of the 1st and 3rd Regiments of Foot Guards and Coldstream Guards.
Sizes are large (fits muskets and larger Jäger locks) and small (fowlers, pistols, rifles, and smaller jäger locks). If you aren't sure which size you need please ask! Custom sizes available on request.
